The Girls with the Enamel Eyes

Created for the Janet Panetta Legacy Concert, The Girls with the Enamel Eyes is a playful reimagining of Coppélia where ballet tradition begins to come undone. Mechanical dolls, The Big Dance Book, Delibes, and 50 Cent collide as “the girl” becomes “the girls”—a work about what dancers inherit, what they keep, and what happens when they make tradition their own.

What happens when Saartjie Baartman, Marie Antoinette, René Descartes, and Charles Darwin end up in the same room? Wildcard is a devised performance project using movement, text, humor, and theatrical play to collide historical figures, inherited narratives, and contemporary questions. Across centuries and wildly different lives, the characters wrestle with who gets observed, remembered, interpreted—and who gets to tell the story.
